What’s on Offer?

Workshops for children and adults at Sara Downham’s artist sudio in rural South Devon.

Who for?

Any age groups from primary through to adults, not exceeding 30 at any one time. In instances of 18 or more visitors, participant will be divided in 2 or 3 groups enabling everyone to get the most from each activity.

What Exactly?

River Walk – scultpture, sketching & photography;
Garden – sketching & ink washes – detailed plant close ups; long panoramic Dartmoor views;
Studio – collaborative painted murals, collage work, consolidation into individual pieces;
House – tour of exhibition or artist’s work with explanation & group discussion; overspill for window drawings, collage preparation & bad weather.

Opportunities

to view, discuss & create work responding to original works of art in their setting;
to work with a professional artist in & around her studio, thus grasping an understanding of the realities of the profession;
to work outside the confines of the school environment, utilising a range of work spaces & collaborations with the freedom to make a mess 7amp; explore.

At least one finished and presentable piece of work per student.

Where Exactly?

Equidistant from Totnes, Kingsbridge, Dartmouth & Ivybridge, Combe Barton Studio is situated in the tiny hamlet of Curtisknowle. The journey should take 20-30 minutes. In the heart of the south Hams, overlooking the Avon Valley & Dartmoor, the studio sits perched on the hillside surrounded by grazing farm animals, vegtable garden and woodland.

Materials

It is expected that participating groups will arrive with their own materials. Alternatively, as long as costs are covered, materials can be provided. A list of materials will be sent out as and when agreement is reached to run the workshop. Basics such as brushes & pots are provided. Overall costs of materials should be nominal.

Fee

£200 per day payable to the artist.
